Choice of apprenticeship trade

In upper secondary education, there are about 200 program areas that lead to a vocational qualification with a trade or journeyman’s certificate. These are called apprenticeship trades.

In an apprenticeship trade, you begin your training in upper secondary school and usually complete it with a period of apprenticeship in a company, either as an apprentice or as a training candidate. This is also referred to as vocational training.

The competence you are expected to achieve after completing training in an apprenticeship trade is described under the occupation the training leads to.

  • Look for information about potential training companies. On the pages for the different education programs, you can find an overview of companies and training offices that provide training in each trade.
  • The vocational training office in your county, your school counselor, and your teachers can also help you find information about suitable companies.
  • Take advantage of opportunities for work placement through the subject Vocational Specialization (yrkesfaglig fordypning).
