Training candidate

If you think that it may be difficult to complete a trade or journeyman’s examination, you can choose the training candidate alternative. As a training candidate you aim to master a limited number of competence goals.

• Training contract
  Training candidates enter into an in-service training contract with the training establishment at the start of the training period. The same rules apply for an in-service training contract as for an apprenticeship contract.
• Skills test 
  As a training candidate, towards the end of your contract period you will sit for a skills test, which is a less comprehensive examination than the trade/journeyman’s examination. You will then be tested according to the competence goals that are established for your training. For skills tests, the following grade designations are used: “Bestått meget godt” (passed – very good), “Bestått” (passed) and “Ikke bestått” (failed).

If, during your period of training, it becomes clear that you can achieve vocational competence after all, then your training contract, with the consent of the county authorities, can be changed to a regular apprenticeship contract with a trade or journeyman’s certificate as the goal.

Application and placement

When organizing placements of training candidates the county authorities will determine a training path for each training candidate. This requires a good deal of prior planning. You should therefore contact your school counsellor if you want to have a training contract with a training company. The counsellor can give you more information and help you with your application for placement as a training candidate. The deadline for applications is 1 February.

Training candidates have the same rights and obligations as apprentices

The following applies to training candidates:

• The subject curriculum is replaced by the individual training plan
• The trade or journeyman’s examination is replaced by the skills test
• The apprenticeship contract is replaced by the training contract
