Training practice certificates

The training practice scheme is a two-year education scheme in the vocational education programmes. The scheme is especially designed for those who want a more practical education after completing lower secondary education, for the most part in an enterprise.

• You have the opportunity to sit a training practice certificate test after two years’ education/training.
• After achieving a training practice certificate, you may either go out into working life, or enter into an ordinary apprenticeship with a view to achieving a trade certificate/journeymans’ certificate.

In addition to training in a recognized trade, training practice candidates receive vocational education in the common core subjects Norwegian, mathematics and social science. In these subjects you will receive an ordinary assessment.

Your school adviser, the admissions office or the vocational training office can give you information about the training practice certificate scheme in your county.

Training contract

The training practice candidate enters into a written training contract with an approved training establishment or a vocational training office when the training period starts. The same rules apply to a training contract as to an apprenticeship contract.

Training practice certificate test

As a training practice certificate candidate, you finish your training with a training practice certificate test.

• You are to be tested according to the competence aims that are decided for your education/training.
• The training practice certificate is to document the competence you have achieved.
• For the training practice certificate test the grade scale that applies is "Passed very well", "Passed" and "Failed".

A training practice certificate test documents basic competence and is a test at a lower level than a trade/journeyman’s test.

The training practice certificates candidate’s rights and obligations

Training practice certificate candidates have the same rights and obligations as apprentices do. The following appies to training practice certificate candidates:

• The curriculum is replaced by selected competence aims from Vg1, Vg2 and Vg3/training in a training establishment from the relevant education programme.
• The trade/journeyman’s test is replaced by the training practice certificate test.
• The apprenticeship contract is replaced by a training contract.
